HAKA Entertainment was set up in 2017 by Huw Bates and Kedma Macias who have combined their skillsets in the worlds of business and entertainment to create a fresh, dynamic and unique agency. HAKA stands for “Huw and Kedma’s Agency” – it’s as simple as that!

Mo Pleasure

Mo Pleasure – Creative Director

Multi instrumentalist and producer Morris “Mo” Pleasure has been at the forefront of American popular music for the last three decades and his CV reads like a ‘Who’s Who?’ of popular music.

Mo began his professional career playing with Ray Charles before moving on to working with the likes of George Duke, Christina Aguilera, Chaka Khan, Mary J Blige, Natalie Cole, Roberta Flack and David Foster to name but a few, and he is currently Musical Director for the iconic Bette Midler.

In 1993 he became a member and the Musical Director of legendary group Earth Wind and Fire and after that went on to play keyboards, trumpet and guitar on Janet Jackson’s 2001 “all for you” tour. Mo was also approached by Michael Jackson to play keyboards in his band for the ‘This is it’ tour that sadly never took place. 

As creative director of Haka Entertainment Mo oversees both the musical and creative detail for all of our events, drawing on his wealth of knowledge, experience and contacts in the industry. He is a pivotal part of the team and his role is developing all of the time in readiness for when the live music scene finally starts opening up again.

Huw Bates

Huw Bates comes from a legal background and is one of the founders of the EGO magazine, which is based in Aberystwyth.

He was manager of (and performer with) Elinor Powell’s Sgarmes when they reached the live final of BBC One’s Pitch Battle and is a regular performer with well-renowned theatre company, the Wardens.

Huw is an accomplished MC and is also the host of Taron Egerton’s charity film screening nights at Aberystwyth Arts Centre.

Huw is proud to be a part of Haka Entertainment and hopes that it will be a vessel to showcase some of the best talent in Wales and beyond, for many years to come.

Bu’n rheoli ac yn perfformio gyda Sgarmes Elinor Powell pan gyrhaeddon nhw rownd derfynnol y sioe Pitch Battle ar BBC One, ac mae hefyd yn berfformiwr gyda chwmni pantomeim y Wardens yn Aberystwyth.

 

Mae Huw hefyd yn feistr seremonïau dawnus ac ef sy’n cyflwyno nosweithiau ffilmiau Taron Egerton yng Nghanolfan y Celfyddydau, Aberystwyth i godi arian at elusennau.

 

Mae Huw yn falch iawn o fod yn rhan o HAKA Entertainment ac yn gobeithio gallu meithrin a datblygu rhai o ddoniau gorau Cymru a thu hwnt am flynyddoedd i ddod.

Kedma Macias

Kedma a singer from Aberystwyth, Wales and is the co founder of Haka Entertainment. Kedma achieved a First class honours degree in music from BIMM London and since graduating, she now works internationally as a solo artist and is the lead singer of several bands. 

As a session singer, Kedma has worked with some of the biggest names in the industry such as Ariana Grande, Jermaine Jackson, Peter Andre, Bebe Rexha, Michael Ball, Alfie Boe, Sir Bryn Terfel, Ruby Turner, The Shires, Nicola Roberts (Girls Aloud), Sophie Ellis Bextor, Mica Paris and many more. 

Kedma is probably best known for her performance of Queen’s Somebody To Love on BBC ONE’S Pitch Battle, which had the judges out of their seats (and Gareth Malone standing on his desk!)

As a member of Mark De-Lissers choir, Kedma has had the opportunity to perform at iconic venues such as The Royal Albert Hall in the presence of members of The Royal Family and The Horse Guards Parade as well as prime time television shows such as ‘The Graham Norton show’ and ‘Ant & Decs Saturday Night Takeaway’ to name but a few.  

Kedma is very proud of how far Haka has come in such a short space of time, and is looking forward to seeing the company develop further with the help of their awesome new team.

“When Huw and I set up Haka Entertainment, as an artist myself with experience in many different areas of the entertainment industry, it was so important to me that our acts were represented fairly by a team of people who understand the needs and perspectives of both the artist and the clients”.

Mae Kedma yn falch iawn o ba mor bell y mae Haka wedi dod mewn cyfnod byr, ac mae’n edrych ymlaen at weld y cwmni’n datblygu ymhellach gyda chymorth eu tîm newydd anhygoel.

Nia Bates

Having performed on several stages over the years, as part of choirs and groups, Nia now deals mainly behind the scenes, with all of the boring (but vital!) jobs such as contracts and invoicing. Nia is a qualified solicitor, which makes her the perfect person to ensure that all bookings are documented by the correct paperwork to ensure that artists and hirers alike are fully protected. Nia has also assisted with organisational tasks over the past couple of years, including arranging tour venues and dates for Rhys Meirion’s 20th anniversary tour in 2019.

Ar ôl perfformio ar sawl llwyfan dros y blynyddoedd, fel rhan o gorau a grwpiau, mae Nia bellach yn gweithio’n bennaf y tu ôl i’r llenni, gyda’r holl swyddi diflas (ond hanfodol!) fel contractau ac anfonebu. Mae Nia yn gyfreithwraig gymwysedig ac yn berffaith ar gyfer sicrhau bod yr holl archebion a’r gwaith papur yn gywir, gan sicrhau bod artistiaid a’r rheini sy’n llogi yn cael eu diogelu’n llawn. Mae Nia hefyd wedi cynorthwyo gyda’r gwaith trefnu dros y blynyddoedd diwethaf, gan gynnwys trefniadau lleoliadau a dyddiadau ar gyfer taith 20fed pen-blwydd Rhys Meirion ym 2019.

Sam Ebenezer

Sam is a Singer/Actor from Aberystwyth who has been a part of the HAKA family from the very beginning, taking part in our HAKoustic evenings, leading our Musical Theatre course and performing at several private events and celebrations!

Sam has had a lot success since the pandemic, performing the leading role ‘Detective Sergeant Trotter’ in Agatha Christie’s ‘The Mousetrap’ during its 70th Anniversary on the West End, starring in the opening ceremony for the Eisteddfod in Ceredigion 2022 and now covering 4 different roles in one of his dream shows, ‘The Choir of Man’ at The Arts Theatre in Leicester Square, West End. 

The pandemic meant that Sam was available to have a larger role with us at HAKA Entertainment. As well as hosting and performing in many of our online virtual events during 2020-21, Sam took charge of our Marketing and Social Media and created our West End Workshops. But despite now living and working in London again, Sam is always there to support and advise HAKA and is still committed to giving the local kids as many opportunities as he can. He doesn’t need any excuse stay connected to home! 

Mae Sam yn actor a chanwr yn wreiddiol o Aberystwyth ac mae wedi bod yn rhan o deulu HAKA o’r cychwyn cyntaf. Mae’n cymryd rhan yn ein nosweithiau HAKoustic, arwain ein cwrs Theatr Gerddorol ac yn perfformio mewn sawl digwyddiad a dathliad preifat. 

Mae Sam wedi cael llawer o lwyddiant dros y blynyddoedd dwethaf, yn chwarae’r brif rhan, ‘Detective Sergeant Trotter’, ym mhenblwydd sioe Agatha Christie yn 70, ‘The Mousetrap’ yn y West End, serennu yn y cyngerdd agoriadol Eisteddfod Genedlaethol Ceredigion 2022 a nawr yn ‘Understudy’ ar gyfer pedwar rôl yn un o’i hoff sioeau, ‘The Choir of Man’, The Arts Theatre yn Leicester Square, West End.

Fel canlyniad o’r pandemig, roedd Sam ar gael i gymeryd fwy o rôl gyda HAKA. Yn ogystal â chynnal a pherfformio mewn llawer o’n digwyddiadau rhithwir ar-lein yn ystod 2020-21, ymgymerodd Sam y rôl o reoli ein Marchnata a’n Cyfryngau Cymdeithasol a creuwyd ein gweithdai West End. Er bod e nawr nôl yn byw ac yn gweithio yn Llundain, mae Sam yn cefnogi ac yn cynghori HAKA o hyd, a dal yn awyddus i creu cyfleuoedd i’r plant lleol. ‘Sdim angen llawer o esgus i Sam ddod adre!
